It finally feels like spring and we’re still talking about basketball. That and a lot of other great things are happening around Des Moines this week:
Animal Tracks with the Family Nature Club
Des Moines Parks and Recreation is teaming up with the Blank Park Zoo Family Nature Club to offer this fun event at Greenwood Park.

World Food Prize Free Open House
The World Food prize is holding a special open house in honor of the 105th anniversary of Norman Borlaug’s birth. There will be free activities for all ages throughout the day.

Note: If you miss this event, it’s good to know that the World Food Prize building is open regularly for tours each Tuesday, and open without tours on Saturdays.

NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament
Iowa is representing in the brackets this year– a lot of opportunities to cheer for our teams:
Friday, March 22nd:
– Iowa Men vs. Cincinnati at 11:15am on CBS
– Iowa Women vs. Mercer at 1pm on ESPN2
– Iowa State Men vs. Ohio State at 8:50pm on TBS
– Drake Women vs. Missouri on ESPN2, time TBA
Saturday, March 23rd:
– Iowa State Women vs. New Mexico State on ESPN2, time TBA
As for hosting, we finally know which teams will be coming to Des Moines. Now it’s time to complete those brackets, and make plans to join the fun of the tournament being hosted in our fair city. General public tickets are sold out, so either plan to buy them on the secondary market, or plan to join the fun at Cowles Commons.

Cost: Tickets vary on the secondary market, the event at Cowles Commons is free

Shakespeare on the Lawn
This year, the Iowa Stage Theatre Company will perform Macbeth in the Salisbury House’s annual Shakespeare event. Bring a blanket and a picnic for a relaxing and entertaining evening.
