Science Center Family Night
The second Friday of each month, the Science Center of Iowa has their $5 Family Night. From 5-8pm that evening, admission is only $5 per person! Their Food Chain Cafe is open until 7:30 pm if you’d like to get a bite while you’re there.

Mental Health: Mind Matters
This exhibit aims to increase understanding of the importance of mental health and create a safe space for meaningful conversations about mental illness. There are hands-on exhibit experiences that will bring you closer to facts, feelings and issues surrounding this significant topic.

Chris Vance Closing Reception at Moberg
Chris Vance has art that is instantly recognizable to most Des Moinesians. He has had a gallery show for the last month at Moberg which will be ending on April 18th. Join the reception to see some new pieces, to meet Chris, and to enjoy a drink, some music and some fun art.

Get Active

Climb Iowa — East Village
Climb Iowa opened their East Village location at the end of January. It’s located next door to Peace Tree Brewery, and they focus solely on bouldering. Through April 26th, they are offering a complimentary class called New Climber Fridays, which are bouldering classes for new climbers. A trained Climb Iowa instructor will lead two sessions each Friday– one at 7pm and then again at 8pm. The class is free after admission is paid to climb.

When: Fridays through April 26th
Cost: The class is free, but it is $18 to get in, and rock climbing shoes are required, but can be rented for $5

CultureALL: Simon Estes Dinner
CultureALL is a Des Moines non-profit that works to build a more inclusive community by providing cultural education programming for schools, businesses and organizations in central Iowa. They organize dinners on a regular basis throughout the area, in homes and other locations, with a goal of bringing people together across different cultures. They also host an annual Multi-Cultural fundraising dinner, and this year the honored guest is Iowa-son Simon Estes, the internationally renowned opera singer.
Where: The River Center, 340 SW 3rd St.
When: Thursday, April 18th from 6:30 – 9:30pm
Cost: $125 per ticket

Tangerine
The Des Moines Art Center has a new offering in their restaurant space called Tangerine. They are open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch from 11-2.

Cardi B will be in Des Moines on Friday, May 3rd. Tickets are only available on the secondary market, but there is a good selection under $200.

The Official Cardi B After Party
After the concert, from 11pm – 1:30am, there will be an after party at Richochet in the East Village, which will include Cardi’s official DJ. Tickets are $20 for general admission.

Looking Ahead

Eat. Drink. Architecture.
The Iowa Architectural Foundation is holding their 8th annual Eat. Drink. Architecture fundraising event on April 20th. The event is a walking architectural tour of downtown. It will begin and end at the Iowa Taproom, and will include two more stops at eating establishments along the way. You’ll enjoy appetizers and beer samples along with great conversation at each location, and then you’ll walk to the next location, enjoying the guided walking tour as you go. Tickets usually sell out, so buy them now!
