Ella Enchanted
The Des Moines Community Playhouse is presenting a musical spin on the fairy-tale Cinderella in their Children’s Theatre series, with the musical Ella Enchanted.

Ewing Park Lilac Arboretum
On the Southside of Des Moines, there is a 355-acre park called Ewing Park. Every spring for about two weeks, the Lilac Arboretum in Ewing Park comes alive with color. It has more than 1400 lilac bushes, in more than 120 varieties.

Iowa Cubs
The Cubs are back at home starting today, April 24th, and will be playing Nashville and then San Antonio. Nightly games through May 2nd.

Get Active

Pedal to the Park
If you’re planning to head to the Cubs game on Sunday afternoon, consider biking there! Bike World sponsors ‘Pedal to the Park’. Secure bike parking is offered by Gate D, along with discounted tickets and sometimes a little swag.

Give Back

One Run
Here is the final time I’ll talk about this this year — OneRun, the first-ever district-wide fundraising fun run for Des Moines Public Schools will be happening this Saturday, rain or shine. If you’ve registered, you can pick up your running bib this Thursday or Friday afternoon at Anawim Housing (1171 7th St). Then, be sure to show up at the Botanical Gardens at 8am on Saturday, for the run at 9am.Each participant will funnel $20 towards the school of their choice!

When: Saturday, April 27th. Sign in between 8am-8:45, run at 9am
Cost: Free, but registration is required

Patio Season!

The Thing You Know About

Drake Relays
The 110th Drake Relays continue on Wednesday the 24th with the pole vaulting demonstration at Capital Square. That event is free and runs from 6-9pm. At the Drake Stadium, the biggest races happen on Friday evening of the 26th and Saturday afternoon of the 27th.

The Thing You Don’t Know About

DSM Tech Crawl
DSM Tech Crawl is a one-night tour of Des Moines’ startup and tech community. This is a great opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and tour some of the coolest tech spaces in Des Moines, pub-crawl style. Meet with tech leaders, startup founders and young professionals as you tour different tech spaces in downtown Des Moines with entertainment at each stop. The tech crawl will start at The Forge at 5:00pm with 30-40 minutes being spent at each of five different host sites throughout the evening.
Where: The Forge by Pillar Technology at 1420 Locust Street
When: Thursday, April 25th at 5pm
Cost: $10 and $5 for students

Looking Ahead

DAM to DSM
This is the race that used to be called Dam to Dam; it’s under new management but still looks to be the same unique and fun 20K that runs from the Saylorville Dam to Downtown Des Moines. There are still spots available in this June 1st run.
