CelebrAsian 2019
The Iowa Asian Alliance is hosting the 17th Annual CelebrAsian Festival this weekend in the Western Gateway Park. The festival will include over a dozen Asian Villages where you can experience authentic Asian food, educational activities, and live cultural entertainment. The Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in Iowa come together to showcase cultural exhibits, history, food, performance artists, sports, martial arts, and family-friendly activities.

Out to Lunch
The Greater Des Moines Partnership is hosting the Out to Lunch series, which is a weekly event on Wednesdays during lunchtime that features food trucks and vendors along with live music at various Downtown Des Moines locations. This event is free and open to the public.

When: Wednesdays, May 22nd through June 26th from 11am – 1:30pm

Summer in the City
There is a free monthly concert series called Summer in the City, which is held in parks throughout Des Moines. The first concert in the series will be held at Greenwood Park, this Saturday, May 25th at 5:15pm. It will feature the husband and wife folk/pop duo, The Well Pennies.
Where: Sylvan Amphitheater at Greenwood Park, 4500 Grand Ave.
When: Saturday, May 25th, doors at 4:30, music at 5:15pm

Sports

Principal Charity Classic
The Principal Charity Classic is a golf competition held at the Wakonda Club each year. The event will pull in 78 PGA Tour players for the 3-day tournament which will also raise money for non-profits that support children throughout Iowa.

When: May 31st (10:30-1), June 1st (2-4:30), and June 2nd (1:30-4)
Cost: 1-day tickets are $25 and kids under 15 get in free

Restaurant Scene

Bellhop
This East Village tiki bar is opening on Thursday, May 23rd. They’ve posted their drink menu, and it includes poolside classics like mojitos, Dark and Stormys, and Caipirinha. Classic Tiki variations like Mai Tais, Pina Coladas and Singapore Slings, and six house cocktails, and two options for drink bowls to share.

The Thing You Know About

Memorial Day
Monday, May 27th is Memorial Day, which is a holiday that’s easy to dismiss as a simple 3-day weekend. If you’re wanting to focus on the reason for the holiday, there is a free Memorial Day program, open to the public at the Iowa Events Center. The event will remember and honor all those who have dedicated their lives to serve our country, and will feature various speakers, an honored guest and a massing of the colors ceremony.

Ingersoll Food Walking Tour
Tour the Ingersoll Avenue District with a group of friends to have a fun, unique night out in one of the top dining areas of Des Moines. The tour starts with a brief history of the district before your local food tour begins.
