New Outdoor Ice Rinks Open
Yesterday, two new outdoor ice rinks opened in the metro– one at Lions Park in Urbandale, and the other at the Johnston Commons. The rinks are sponsored by Iowa Wild Hockey and Wells Fargo, which make them completely free to the public. These two new rinks join those already opened in past years at Raccoon River Park, in Waukee and in Ankeny.

The Thing You Don’t Know About

The Des Moines Gamer Symphony Orchestra
Gamers already know that video games often include incredible music. There has been a growing trend in professional music circles globally to start taking this music seriously. That trend hit Des Moines last year with the Des Moines Gamer Symphony Orchestra. They had two concerts last year and they are looking to continue this year with even more musicians, and possibly even with the addition of choral singers. If you would be interested in playing or singing with this group, check the link below for more information.

If you’re someone who would rather enjoy the concert from the audience, I will let you know when and where that happens, likely in late May.

When: Next concert scheduled for late May
Free to participate and attend the concerts

Looking Ahead

New Evergreen DSM 411 Series: Towns Worth the Drive
It’s a new year and I’m working on some fresh and different content for DSM 411 in 2020.

Frequent listeners will know that I occasionally have a category in the podcast called “Worth the Drive” where I cover something happening outside of Des Moines, but– it’s worth the drive. Expanding on this concept, I’m working to create new, standalone episodes, in addition to the weekly updates, which will highlight things to do in surrounding, smaller communities.

If you wanted to take a day trip to Winterset or Indianola- what would you do there? Where should you eat? I would love to create a mini library of podcast episodes for you to use if you’re looking to take a day trip outside of Des Moines. I’ll keep you posted as this project develops, and I’ll likely be reaching out on social media for tips, suggestions and opinions.
